Thirty Percent Feedback
🔗
I'm hosting it HERE because the original article is unavailable
This is one of the five things I make EVERY direct report read.
Format
- Five-page free blog post
Read it if you...
- are trying to delegate, but are disappointed by the work that comes back
- manage a perfectionist
- are a perfectionist
- dread critical feedback from teammates and/or a manager
- report to someone who is not good at setting clear expectations up front
I like that it:
- gives everyone clear, useful, judgement-free language
- helps perfectionists show work before it's fully done
- helps feedback givers be honest AND helpful
How to use it:
- When delegating, say "come back and let's talk when it's 30% done" which limits the blast radius of communication problems on general direction
- When reviewing work, ask "what percent done is this?" so you can tailor your feedback
- When showing your work, make it clear what percent done it is and what kind of feedback you're looking for.
